The Pittsburgh Steelers are going to meet with one of the top draft-eligible quarterbacks before the 2024 NFL Draft.
Per ESPN’s Brady Henderson, former Washington quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is going to meet with the Steelers in the next couple of weeks.
Even though the Steelers have Russell Wilson, Justin Fields, and Kyle Allen in their quarterback room, they’re clearly still interested in potentially drafting Penix Jr.
Penix Jr. was tremendous for Washington this past season and was a major reason why the program got to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. He finished the season with 4,903 yards through the air, 36 touchdowns, and only 11 interceptions.
If the Steelers want to draft Penix Jr., they’d likely have to do so with one of their first couple of picks. He probably won’t be there after the second round finishes.
It’ll all come down to whether the Steelers think he’s the best pick at the time. They have plenty of other needs, including center, tackle, and wide receiver.
The 2024 NFL Draft will take place from Apr. 25-27 in Detroit, Michigan. The first round will be on Apr. 25 while the second and third rounds will be on Apr. 26. Finally, rounds 4-7 will be on Apr. 27.
