The Pittsburgh Steelers witnessed firsthand that, arguably, the organization made a mistake by not selecting Jalen Hurts during the 2020 NFL Draft.
It has been a decision that has haunted the team since Ben Roethlisberger retired at the conclusion of the 2022 NFL season, as the Steelers’ inability to find his replacement has been apparent over the past several seasons.
As Hurts held the Super Bowl LIX MVP trophy in one hand and the Lombardi Trophy in the other, it was a painful sight for fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers to witness. However, re-signing Justin Fields for the 2025 season and beyond may give the team another chance at developing their own ‘Jalen Hurts.’
Fields’ athletic qualities and decision-making are not that far off from Hurts, and some could even argue that Fields’ speed makes up for the slight edge Hurts may have over him in the accuracy department.
If the Pittsburgh Steelers want to rectify the ‘Chase Claypool over Hurts’ mistake made in 2020, bringing back Fields for another season in the Steel City seems like a good start.
