The Steelers are adding another name to their offensive depth chart with the signing of a veteran running back on Tuesday.
Taking to social media, the team announced that it signed 26-year-old Jonathan Ward to a one-year deal.
Ward is entering his fifth season in the NFL and took part in Pittsburgh’s rookie minicamp as part of a tryout.
In his four years as a pro, Ward’s appeared in 43 games and toted the rock 17 times for 69 yards. He’s also added six receptions, 52 yards and a touchdown in the passing game.
Ward got his start in the league by joining the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent in 2020. After two-plus seasons in the desert, Ward was picked up by the Tennessee Titans where he spent 2022 and ’23.
Ward joins a Steelers offense that’s looking to improve in a big way now that they have some new faces at the offensive coordinator and quarterback spots.
Pittsburgh was able to refresh its QB room by getting rid of former first-round pick Kenny Pickett and bringing in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
They also hired former Falcons head coach Arthur Smith to be the team’s new OC which is a welcome change for many fans following three seasons of Matt Canada.
