Pittsburgh works out two former second-round picks.
The Steelers updated their rolodex of free agent safeties on Tuesday. Per NFL insider Aaron Wilson, Pittsburgh has worked out Eric Rowe and Marquise Blair.
Rowe should be a familiar name to some Steelers fans. He was more or less signed off the couch late last season to fill in for an injury-stricken Steelers secondary.
The 6’1, 205-pound defensive back was a second-round pick for the Eagles back in 2015. With the Steelers, Rowe clearly didn’t have his former speed, but he still played well, recording an interception, forced fumble, two passes defensed, and 29 total tackles in three regular season starts.
Rowe’s Steelers contract expired in January, and he hasn’t been with a team since.
Blair is also a former second-round pick, selected by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019. Also like Rowe, he played college football at Utah and started his NFL career at cornerback before switching to safety (both were also the 47th overall pick in their respective drafts!). The 6’1, 196-pound defender ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine.
Blair has only started three game at the NFL level, and over his career he’s amassed 52 total tackles and three passes defensed. He was released by Seattle following his second season, but joined their practice squad in 2024 after stints with the Panthers and Eagles. Blair was most recently with the New York Jets.
The Blair and Rowe workouts give the Steelers some high pedigree names to keep an eye on ahead of a Week 11 matchup against the Baltimore Ravens.
