Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt has earned a plethora of accolades during his first seven NFL seasons.
Watt has earned six Pro Bowl selections and four first-team All-Pro designations. He’s led the NFL in sacks three time and won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award in 2021, the same year he tied the single-season sack record.
But all of those individual accomplishments can’t erase what is the biggest hole on Watt’s resume at the moment: he’s never won a playoff game.
“For me, it is all about no playoff wins,” Watt told The Athletic‘s Mark Kaboly about his overriding goal. “I am trying to do anything I can do. We have so much turnover year to year and so many new guys that it is trying to learn as much as possible coming from guys from other organizations that have done it and won championships since being in the league.”
Pittsburgh has never had a losing season and has gone to the playoffs four times in Watt’s seven campaigns, so it’s not like he’s experienced no team success.
But when you play for a franchise with the rich history of the Steelers, postseason success is how you are ultimately judged. Watt knows he and his teammates have come up short in that area, and is looking to correct that moving forward.
“I am going to do whatever is possible to win,” he said. “It is about not taking any day for granted, and when it comes down to executing and working, putting everything aside and getting it done.”
