The Pittsburgh Steelers drafted Kenny Pickett in 2022 with the hope that he’d be their franchise quarterback. Less than two years later, he has already been traded.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter has just reported that Pickett has been traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in a pick swap.
The Steelers are receiving pick No. 98 and a pair of 2025 seventh-round picks. In addition to getting Pickett, the Eagles are acquiring pick No. 120 in this year’s draft.
Now that Pickett has been traded, Russell Wilson is the unquestioned starter for the Steelers.
Per the report from Schefter, the Steelers knew Pickett wanted out shortly after they signed Wilson.
“Once Pittsburgh signed Russell Wilson, Pickett preferred to move on,” Schefter said.
Russell Wilson spoke with Pickett after signing a one-year contract with the Steelers. He said, “I got to talk to him a little bit and I just told him, ‘Hey let’s go out there, let’s be the best version of ourselves to try to make this team better.'”
Unfortunately, we’ll never know what a camp battle between Pickett and Wilson would’ve looked like.
Pickett finished his two-year stint in Pittsburgh with 4,474 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Suffice to say, he didn’t live up to the hype.
Maybe Pickett will revitalize his career with the Eagles. That’ll be tough to do since they have Jalen Hurts as their starter.
