The Pittsburgh Steelers are reuniting with cornerback Cam Sutton, whose tenure with the Detroit Lions ended after one season amid legal troubles.
Sutton, a third-round pick of the Steelers in 2017, spent six seasons with Pittsburgh before playing for the Lions in 2023.
He was let go by the team back in March after an arrest warrant was issued accusing the 29-year-old of domestic violence during an incident on March 7.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida searched for Sutton for several weeks after he refused to turn himself in. Eventually, he did so on March 31.
Last fall, Sutton started all 17 games for the Lions, recording a career-high 65 tackles along with one interception, one forced fumble and six passes defensed. He also started all three of Detroit’s playoff games as the team advanced to the NFC Championship Game for the first time in 32 years.
Sutton was also a full-time starter for the Steelers in 2021 and 2022. In 2022, he set personal highs with three interceptions and 15 passes defensed.
For his career, Sutton has appeared in 101 regular season games with 56 starts. He owns 233 total tackles, nine interceptions, two sacks, six forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and 44 passes defensed.
It’s possible that the veteran cornerback will face discipline from the NFL for his offseason arrest, but as of now no ruling has been handed down.
